Improve your memory

Healin’ Notes – Not just old wives’ tales

Quote from essential oils desk reference:  “A university in Japan experimented with diffusing different oils in the office.  When they diffused lemon, there were 54 percent fewer errors. … When oils were diffused while studying and taking a test, test scores increased by as much as 50 percent.  Diffusing an essential oil while studying may also improve memory while taking a test.  By inhaling the same aroma, the smell of the oil may encourage recall of facts or figures learned previously by bringing back the memory of what was studied.”

Now, this is one of those comments that makes a friend of mine really raise her eyebrows.  So I went looking for current, scientific research.  Voila!  Specific research was done to learn how lemon essential oil affects the brain.  It was discovered that it stimulates the central part of the hippocampus, triggering rational, left-brain thinking.  Thus, it seems that a whiff of this pleasant essential oil will help you remember the subjects you studied.

Also, if you’re focusing on losing weight, and you are having emotional reactions that cause you to reach for food, a quick inhale of lemon oil can help you curb the desire for second helpings or dessert.
